Old days

During the days of the winter solstice, when the day shortens and the night lengthens, one of the last stripes in our territory comes to Beckov Castle.

If you want to have fun, be a little scared and learn something about the traditions associated with the Striji Days, then come to Beckov Castle in the evening of October 25 and 26, 2019. From Katarína (November 25) to Tomáš (December 21) they enjoyed favorable conditions for their action various beings and forces, which were rather associated with negative magical energies. It is not for nothing that it is said that when darkness triumphs over light, it is a temporary victory of evil over good.

Means of protective magic (magical plants), protective signs (cross, circle), symbolic actions (circumvention), masks and noise were used for protection, which were supposed to drive away these evil forces. Later, the ideas were reduced to protection against strigos (witches), especially cattle. Among these ideas were, for example, the ban on a foreign woman entering the house and yard, eating garlic and painting the door with garlic, bypassing the house with holy water and smashing people and cattle with carbon.

You can look forward to the flight of the last known witches in Slovakia. An herbalist with a boiled potion that will give you energy against the negative forces of evil. Traditions connected with the winter solstice period will be introduced to us by young people from the folklore group Trúfalci.
