Nové Mesto nad Váhom in prehistory

In the Trenčín Museum - in the premises of the Podjavorin Museum in Nové Mesto na Váhom, a vernissage for the exhibition Nové Mesto nad Váhom in prehistory will take place on 13 February 2020 at 5 pm. The exhibition is created from the archaeological collection of the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín.

The exhibition introduces us to two selected archaeological cultures, traces of which can be found in Novo Mesto nad Váhom and its surroundings. The first of them is the Bošák group, which was named after the first finds from nearby Bošáca, from the position "Pohančeniščia". It is a cultural group widespread in the Late Eneolithic, ie the Late Stone Age. The center of its expansion are mainly both sides of the Little and White Carpathians.

The second part of the exhibition is focused on the Bronze Age, mainly on the Lusatian culture in Novo Mesto nad Váhom. Archaeological finds from the Bronze Age are among the many and often explored. The exhibited objects come mainly from rescue research directly from Nové Mesto nad Váhom, where they took place in the positions of the Three Crosses, in the Horné Samoty housing estate, or in the Dominika Štubňa Zámostský settlement park. The area of Nové Mesto nad Váhom is interesting in that two archeological cultures meet here, namely the Lusatian culture in the north and the culture of the Middle Danube garbage fields in the south. From the Lusatian culture, you can see several archeological finds in the museum's permanent exhibition, such as ceramic dustbins or sets of bronze objects. However, this exhibition is supplemented by other finds from the Bronze Age, not only from the Lusatian, but also from other cultures, traces of which can be found in the vicinity of Nové Mesto nad Váhom.
