The winter season offers several opportunities for sports - skating, hiking and, last but not least, skiing. We do not have to go far for such relaxation. Even in the New Town district there are ski resorts that offer good quality weather and beautiful views of the surrounding area in good weather.

The ski resort of Kálnica is about five kilometers from the motorway, making it easily accessible to people from different parts of Slovakia and abroad. It offers its visitors such as a ski school, a ski rental, snowboard and other aids, and the possibility of night skiing. The operation is dependent on the weather, which in recent years does not ski in these regions. "Winters in our high altitude are quite unfavorable to skiing. The snow is low and lasts for a short time. When it was snowing there, the season was not like in the Tatras. The owner of the resort therefore wondered how to use it during the summer and came up with a very good idea - to attract cyclists here, "said Mayor Kálnice Ján Krchnavý. Therefore the resort works only during winter, with good snow conditions, the rest of the year is used as a bike center.

Another ski resort in the New Town district is located in the Povazsky Inovec Mountains in the cadastre village of Stará Lehota. The name was given by Bezovec hill lying at an altitude of 748 meters. There are four technically snow-covered and two partly snow-covered slopes, all over the world. Both beginners begin as well as demanding athletes. "Everybody chooses according to their skills, and the terrain is free of rocks as it is grassland," added Mayor Jaroslav Pikus. According to him, Bezovec used to be a favorite ski area in the past, but also in southern Slovakia. But in the last few years, they have experienced the consequences of mild snow and lack of snow.
