The southern fortifications of Trenčín Castle, which have only recently been reconstructed, became the place where the international jury of the European Capital of Culture competition with the Trenčín 2026 team met.

" We are a proud partner of the city of Trenčín and we support it in its efforts to obtain this prestigious title ," said the chairman of the Trenčín self-governing region, which also emphasized the uniqueness of the project and its regional character. The jury was awaited by a busy program, which started with a meeting at the regional landmark - Trenčín Castle. Due to anti-pandemic measures, two vice-presidents of the TSK and other mayors of the cities in the region met with the guests in its amphitheater through a videoconference, who confirmed their support for the city of Trenčín. "I think we have already done a huge amount of work and connected people for a good cause with an invisible network. Winning the title would mean many benefits for the whole region and, last but not least, an increase in tolerance among its inhabitants, " added the Trenčín mayor.

Since 1985, the title of European Capital of Culture has been awarded to more than 60 cities across the European Union. This year, three Slovak cities are fighting for it. Trenčín, Žilina and Nitra. The results should be known this Friday.
