You can learn about who the original owners of the book collections were, what they read, where they got the books from, and what the fates of their libraries were at the lecture, which will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
Noble libraries are a type of private libraries that were created gradually from the 16th century and in the 18th century they were an essential part of almost every noble residence, reflecting the social status of the owner. Thanks to the material security of the nobility and the principle of the indivisibility of family property, the noble libraries of their founders survived and could develop over the next generations.
The lecture will be given by Alica Krištofová, who has been working since 2004 as a professional librarian in the library of the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín. He works with historical library documents of the 16th-19th centuries and researches noble libraries in Považí. As part of his work, he is also engaged in mapping filigrees in old prints and creating a catalog of filigrees, and also publishes in the field of old prints and book culture.
Admission to the lecture is FREE.
