Region of insurgent history, castles and personalities

In the series of presentations of individual districts of the Trenčín Region we continue with New Town over Vahom. A region with a rich and interesting past is full of monuments and links of those who helped shape our history.

Within the Trenčín Region, the New Town District is the third largest - the area of nearly 580 square kilometers is inhabited by 62,555 inhabitants. It spreads in the southern part of the middle of Povazia. The region is neighboring the districts of Trenčín, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Myjava, Topoľčany and Piešťany. It borders the Czech Republic in the northwest. The district consists of 32 villages and two towns, namely Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá.

The territory is bordered by the northwest side of the White Carpathian Mountains with its highest peak, Veľká Javorina. On the eastern side it is again the Považský Inovec massif. The outcrops of the Small Carpathians, Myjavská and Podunajská hills and Považský Podolia are covered by the district. The most important area in terms of settlement is the Danube Plain area, which extends into the Váh River basin.

Thanks to its convenient location, the surrounding area of the town was inhabited in the earlier Stone Age. Proof of this is the archaeological finds from the former tehelna in the town of Mnešice, which makes it one of the most important settlements in the Czech Republic. The city of Nové Mesto nad Váhom itself houses several interesting monuments, including, for example, the Roman Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary with a richly decorated interior. The square is home to numerous Renaissance mosque houses dominated by the Podjavorinsky Museum.

Probably the biggest known attraction of the district is the triple of the castles Čachtice, Beckov and Tematín. However, many more rare buildings will appear in the village of Podolie. In addition to the castles, there are also many chateaux, churches, bell towers and, most recently, houses where seven famous Slovak personalities were born. All on one hectare in the Miniature Park.

The mandatory stop in the district is Haluzice and the ruins of the Romanesque church located here. In addition, close to its close neighborhood is about a kilometer long, 200 meters wide and 50 meters deep Haluzic Tiesanava. A local brook, which has not finished its work, has been healed, and that's why the disaster is still widening. You should not even have a manor house in Zemiansky Podhradí, the residence of Štúr's love, Adely Ostrolúckej, or a mound from the Bronze Age in Očkove. This year's news in the district includes the opening of the mysterious underground in Čachtice. The part of the labyrinth that runs alongside the village was made available in April of this year.

Beautiful hills and dozens of walkways will delight lovers of hiking. One of the tourist paths is named after Captain Milos Uhros.

In the Great Javorine, they regularly remind themselves of the common Czech-Slovak past. The celebrations of the Czech and Slovak Brotherhood became the largest cultural and social event on the Slovak-Czech border.
