Thermal water and picturesque nature

Trenčianske Teplice is associated with many, especially with the local spa. The fame of thermal springs with healing effects exceeded the borders not only of this region, but also of Slovakia. If you choose here and prefer hiking, for example, instead of relaxing in warm water, you will definitely not be bothered. The region in the Teplička river basin has a lot to offer to nature lovers as well as to those who are addressed by the recent past.

The Teplička stream is named after the hot springs that spring in the Trenčín-Teplice breakthrough. It springs in the Zliechovská hornatina, flows through several villages, including Trenčianske Teplice and Trenčianska Teplá, until its flow flows into the Vážský canal in Trenčín. Years ago, this valley also enchanted the Hungarian writer Móra Jókai, who called Trenčianske Teplice itself the pearl of the Carpathians. However, another writer also liked the city. Karel Čapek came here with his brother Josef to see their father, who worked as a spa doctor. It was here that an important author had to come up with the word robot.

Today, the spa town of more than 4,000 attracts both domestic and foreign clients, mainly thanks to thermal water with an optimal temperature, which helps with skin diseases or problems with the musculoskeletal system. But you don't just have to stay in the pools. Several attractions can be found right in the city, such as the Moorish-style Hammam spa house is remarkable in itself, and just a few minutes' walk away you will find tables with the names of world-famous actors given during the Art Film Fest.

Popular attractions include the Spa Park, founded in the late 19th century, with a lake and many unique trees. There are also hiking trails, from which there are several in the surrounding hills. Through the forest path you can get, for example, to Kráľovec, Dedovec or to the Machnáč saddle, from where you will be offered wonderful views. On the way up to Klepáč you can visit Jánošík's cave again. More demanding hikes already offer marked trails to Homôľka, Vápeč or Opatovská dolina. Machnáč pond is one of the most sought-after places. Lovers of horse riding should not miss a visit to the stud farm in Motešice, which boasts a long history.

If, after ending the restrictions caused by the global pandemic, you decide to visit Trenčianske Teplice, try taking a tram ride from Trenčianske Teplice. Today, it is the oldest public electricity line in Slovakia, which has been operating for more than 110 years. During the summer, the tram has regular weekend operation, which according to the original schedule should last from June 27 to September 27.
